If you say it on the Podcast label it must be inside the Podcast tin.

If you say it on the Podcast label it must be inside the Podcast tin.

Imagine buying a can of baked beans and opening it up to find a tin of peaches?  That actually happened to me once, it was odd having peaches on toast but hey I had nothing else in.  You should try it.

What I find really odd though is when a Podcast advertises an episode with something like “learn key interview skills from a Hollywood producer” and when you listen to the Podcast you don’t actually hear those aforementioned tips.

Instead it should perhaps say “hear the life and times of a former Hollywood producer”, which would be fine if the Podcast was all about Hollywood lives, but if it’s about audio production or podcast skills it really should say on the label about what’s inside the tin.

A similar things also applies to my rule of broadcast which says – ‘If you promise you must deliver’.  It is something I have always been a stickler about at any radio station I’ve worked at.  If we make a promise to  the listener we must deliver.

studio pic?I recall a presenter I once worked with whom forgot to give the answer to the quiz he had been running.  He did a four hour show and completely forgot to give the answer – HOW?.

The complaint emails were hilarious, but a thought turns to those who didn’t bother to contact and may have tuned out.  The presenter somehow kept hol d of his job.

One radio programmer once said to me “When they turn on the tap they expect water, unless it’s in a pub” I think I understood.

Simple rule for any Podcasters is to tell your listener what it is you are actually going to deliver in the headline and deliver it.
